A SUSPECTED rabid dog on Tuesday went on rampage biting 10 people in Kitwe’s Mulenga Township before it was stoned to death.
Copperbelt Police chief Charity Katanga said the dog, whose owner is unknown, was alleged to have bitten 10 people in the township on Tuesday afternoon.
Ms Katanga said the 10 victims were rushed to Kitwe Central Hospital where they were receiving rabies treatment.
She said the situation was calm after the dog was killed.
“I can confirm that 10 people were bitten by a rabid dog on Tuesday, but we have not established the owner,” she said.
Some eyewitness said that the dog caused panic among the residents some of whom managed to stone it until it died.
In another incident, police are holding a 22-year-old man from Mazabuka who was allegedly found standing naked near Mindolo Catholic Church.
Ms Katanga said the police were holding the man who claimed to have flown from Mazabuka.
She said the police were keeping the man in custody for safety because members of the public wanted to set him ablaze on suspicion that he was a wizard.
