THE Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) has urged showgoers to be quality conscious and shun substandard products as they do their shopping during this year’s Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF) which commenced yesterday.
This year’s fair, being held under the theme ‘Enhanced Value Addition for Job Creation’, will end on Tuesday next week.
ZABS head of marketing and public relations, Hazel Zulu urged showgoers to scrutinise quality as  they bought goods being sold at the trade fair.
She said in a statement that during the trade show, various products were sold to consumers, hence the need for them to be mindful of what they would buy.
“As a national standards body, we are encouraging consumers not to be over-excited about the variety of products available at the show and the competitive prices on offer.
“They should ensure that they have vital product information before making the final decision to buy,” she said.
Ms Zulu said consumers should look out for details such as the origin of a product, the manufacturing date, the expiry date, and the batch number.
She said consumers should also insist on buying products whose labelling was in English, the official language of communication and business in Zambia.
“Consumers should know that they have the right to product information to enable them make informed purchasing decisions and get value for their money,” she stated.
