THE Patriotic Front (PF) has reiterated its confidence of winning the August general elections and that there is no need to form an alliance with the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) as there will be no re-run.
The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) rural reconstruction and development chairperson Moono Mapani recently said that his party was aware that the PF and FDD planned to enter into an alliance in an event of a re-run.
Mr Mapani said it was clear from the way FDD leader Edith Nawakwi had been hammering the opposition UPND that she would support the PF.
However, PF secretary general Davies Chama described Mr Mapani’s statement as imaginary.
Mr Chama said the PF was confid ent that it would win the general elections with about 75 per cent of the votes, to cancel any chances of having a re-run.
He said in an interview yesterday that the PF had gained strong ground in North-Western and Western provinces and was now penetrating Southern Province.
“There will be no re-run. PF is winning with a landslide. We are confident of winning the elections and I can tell you that there is a wind of change in North-Western and Western provinces. We have even penetrated Southern Province. PF will win in the first round,” Mr Chama said.
He said the PF was receiving overwhelming support from provinces where the ruling party was not strong during past elections.
