POLICE in Nakonde have arrested a clearing agent for stealing a motor vehicle and using it as collateral to obtain a loan of more than K10,000 from Jericho Cash Money Company.
Muchinga Province Police chief Auxensio Daka said Matthews Sikanyika, 25, of Ntindi Village was given a Toyota Corolla by his friend Joe Simwinga, who is a taxi driver, but later disappeared.
Mr Daka said the owner of the car Abel Chishala reported that his car valued at K20,000 was missing after Simwinga, his taxi driver, gave it to his friend.
He said Mr Sikanyika asked his friend for the car pretending that he was going to Mwenzo when infact he wanted to use it as collateral to obtain a loan.
Mr Daka said the motor vehicle was recovered and found hidden at one of the garages in Tunduma in Tanzania while the suspect was arrested.
“On June 24, Abel Chishala reported that his car was missing after his taxi driver gave it to his friend. The suspect stole the vehicle and used it as collateral to obtain a K10,400 loan from Jericho Cash Money Company.
After thorough investigations by the police the car was found hidden at one of the garages in Tanzania. The suspect has been arrested and the vehicle recovered,” he said.
