Heed ZAMI indaba call

THE call from the just-ended Zambia Alternative Mining Indaba (ZAMI) to heighten economic diversification efforts in the country should not be taken lightly.
Given the volatility of the prices of copper, Zambia’s economic mainstay, there is need to invest in alternative foreign exchange earners including the semi-precious stone ventures.
This is the only way of ensuring that the Kwacha remains afloat amid any fall in the prices of copper on the world market like the London Metal Exchange.

Kwacha gain relieving

STILL on the local economy, it is relieving to note that the Kwacha is showing some semblance of strength and was trading at K10.750/10.950 to the United States dollar at Lusaka’s Bureaux De Change.
According to ZANACO, the Kwacha is expected to appreciate marginally as multinational corporates complete their month-end dollar sales to generate some units of the local currency.
