A FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD girl of Nakakola village in Nakonde District has been arrested for dumping her newly born baby that was later found dead in the bush.
Muchinga province police commissioner Auxensio Daka said the grandmother to the juvenile Efelo Nachembe 74, reported that her granddaughter dumped the infant in the bush 20 meters from her house.
Mr Daka said the juvenile had been arrested and charged with infanticide.
He said the incident occurred on June 18 around 15:00 hours and it was reported to the police on June 20.
Mr Daka said the infant was found dead with blood coming out of the mouth.
“We have arrested a 15-year-old girl who dumped her baby in a nearby bush, the baby was discovered dead with blood coming out of the mouth. The matter was reported to the police by her grandmother,” he said.
In another development a man of Chinsali District aged 59 has been shot and sustained serious wounds after unknown people armed with guns and machete broke into his house.
Mr Daka said the incident happened on June 21 when the couple was sleeping and that the unknown people armed with guns and machetes broke into the house with the aim of shooting his wife on suspicion that she was practicing witchcraft.
He said the unknown people missed the wife and shot the husband on the thigh who sustained serious injuries.
Mr Daka said the victim was admitted to Chinsali District Hospital where he was nursing wounds.
He said no arrests have been made and that police have instituted investigation into the matter.
