Zanaco 6 Blackpool 0
AN Aubrey Funga hat-trick yesterday helped Zanaco to their biggest win of the season and most certainly sounded a relegation alarm for this Mufulira Blackpool side that is yet to win a game in the top flight league.
The warnings about massacre in this MTN-FAZ Super League Week 17 came as early as the fifth minute when former Chipolopolo star Isaac Chansa headed in a Roderick Kabwe cross but it was the 12 minutes of second-half madness on Blackpool side that will go down as an embarrassment.
Those 12 minutes saw Zanaco score four times with Funga netting twice in the 57th and 66th minutes with Ziyo Tembo scoring in the 59th minute and Saith Sakala added his name on the scorers sheet on 69th minute.
Earlier in the first half, Chansa opened the scoring on five minutes before Funga got his first on 30 minutes after a defensive mix-up by Blackpool presented him with a scoring chance inside the box.
This result, Zanaco’s 11th win this year and also Blackpools 11th defeat, kept the bankers six points clear at the top with 37 points while the Mufulira side remain 11 points off safety.
Nkana 4 Forest 1
Nkana bounced back into second position on the table after thumping Forest Rangers in a week 17 fixture played at Arthur Davis Stadium, reports NDINAWE SIMPELWE.
Having already beaten Zanaco and Zesco United earlier in the season and enjoying good form, Forest were expected to put up a good fight but were humbled by a dominant Nkana display.
It was Nkana’s first win in five games which saw the team go second on 31 points while Forest remained on 24 points.
Simon Bwalya opened the scores in the 19th minute with a well taken header to give Nkana a deserved lead at the break.
Bwalya completed his brace in the 55th minute before Harrison Chisala added a third two minutes later to end the tie as a contest. Walter Bwalya scored the fourth and his ninth of the season in the 68th minute before Felix Nyaende scored a consolation three minutes before full time.
Power 3 Tigers 1
A Kennedy Mudenda brace and a well taken header by Fwayo Tembo handed Power Dynamos new coach Dan Kabwe his first win since joining the club.
Power’s win saw them go level on points with third placed Zesco on 28 points though the champions have three games in hand and a superior goal difference while Tigers remained stuck in the bottom half of the table on 17 points.
Power went in front as early as the sixth minute through Mudenda and Power’s domination paid off further in the 21st minute through a Tembo header. Tigers replied in the second half from the spot kick converted by Mathews Sichone but Mudenda sealed the victory with a well taken shot at the edge of the box.
Buffaloes 2 Nkwazi 0
At Independence Stadium, Green Buffaloes kept their title push alive with a deserved win over Nkwazi but remained stuck on fifth position but on same points with Zesco and Power, reports GODFREY DUBE.
Captain Christopher Katongo gave Buffaloes the lead in the 54th minute and the army side had to wait for a Lottie Phiri free-kick at 90 minutes to seal the victory and leave the ‘Policemen’ on 23 points.
Wanderers 1 Arrows
From Shinde Stadium, ALBERT KAMUSWEKE reports Lubinda Mudinda denied hosts ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers when he levelled matters in the 38th minute to cancel out a ninth minute Joseph Kasongo opener. Wanderers go to 18 while their visitors are just a point above them.
Dynamos 0 Eagles 0
IN the earlier game played at Sunset Stadium, Green Eagles coach Justin Chinama may be a goner at this Zambia National Service (ZNS) sponsored side after he failed to win his last chance game against an equally troubled Lusaka Dynamos.
Hanging on the last thread following a must-win ultimatum imposed ahead of yesterday’s match, Eagles allowed relation fearing Dynamos to reap a point off them was the home side looked the more likely to score but an 80th minute close range Kennedy Musonda shot was saved by the Choma side goalie Kenneth Mwanga. Eagles are on 16 points while
Dynamos have 15 points.
Playing today: Lumwana Radiants v Napsa Stars, Nchanga Stars v Kabwe Warriors, Nakambala Leopards v Zesco postponed.
