FORUM for Democracy and Development (FDD) presidential running mate Clement Mwanza (right) has said his party is enjoying massive support at grassroots level.
Dr Mwanza said in Chipata yesterday that, FDD had received an overwhelming response from the citizens who were supporting it.
“Wherever we go we have been receiving support from the grassroot and we don’t want to do politics of mudslinging but we are doing a clean campaign that is why we have a strong membership at grassroot level,” he said.
He said his political party would dwell much on clean campaigns ahead of the August 11, general elections.
Dr Mwanza said it was good that his party was focusing on issue based campaigns which had helped to attract new membership.
He said campaigns of character assassination were long gone and that, politicians must focus on what they would do forthe people once voted into office which the FDD was currently doing.
DrMwanza counseled Zambians to carefully scrutinise people who were standing in the general elections charging that FDD leader Edith Nawakwi was a better placed person to ascend to the presidency.
Dr Mwanza said Ms Nawakwi was the most experienced person because she served in government as a cabinet minister.
He appealed to the people to vote for FDD in the general elections which he claimed hada clear manifesto of empowering the people.
Despite his party being in opposition, it had demonstrated before by empowering the farmers through seeds and other farming inputs under its farmer support programme.
Dr Mwanza said he had also stepped aside as a minister in-charge at Chipata Reformed Church in Zambia (RCZ) after becoming a running mate in FDD.
“When I became theFDD presidential running mate, I received a lot of criticism that I am a minister in-charge but I have stepped aside in order to concentrate on politics,” he said.
Dr Mwanza said he was not the first person to be a clergy to have joined politics stating that everything was being guided by God.
