By CHIDA SAKALA –

SOME business houses have complained about campaign posters that are being pasted on their premises.
Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) acting corporate affairs manager Oliva Nzala, said in an interview that campaign posters stuck on the organisations sign plates were an eyesore.
Mr Nzala said though everyone knows there were campaigns going on, the public must not display any form of campaign material on the organisations sign plates.
“Campaign materials must not be stuck on the organisations sign plates because the message that is there is targeted for a certain group of people in society who happen to be the tax payers,” he said.
He said by sticking campaigns posters on the sign plates, important information aimed at clients who are the tax payers is obscured.
He said the organisation’s duty was to collect tax from tax earners which happen to be the government’s revenue.
When contacted for a comment, Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) public relations manager Cris Akufuna said it was against the Electoral Code of Conduct for any form of campaign material to be stuck or displayed on private property.
“It is against the Electoral Code of Conduct for anyone to display any form of campaign material on private property and nobody must do so” he said.
He said owners of private property had the right to pull down any political campaign material seen around their premises as stipulated in the Electoral Code of Conduct.
Recently, Lusaka City Council (LCC) public relations manager Haabenzu Mulunda told journalists that no campaign posters must be stuck on private property or road signs.
Mr Mulunda had advised all the political parties to abide by the guidelines of the Electoral Code of Conduct as they distribute or post electoral campaign materials.
He noted that it was against the Electoral Code of Conduct for anyone to display campaign material on private property and members of the public must resist from doing so.
