SOUTH Africa’s iconic singer Dorothy Masuka paid a glowing musical tribute to first Republican president Kenneth Kaunda during the Pillars of Peace (Zambia) Award gala hosted at Lusaka’s Government complex to honour the founding father.
Masuka who is well known in Zambia especially among the older generation described Kaunda as Africa’s hero who commands great respect even in south Africa.
“If Kaunda was to take a walk in South Africa, the entire city can come to a standstill because of the great respect South Africans have for this great man. That is the main reason why when I heard that he was being honoured, I had to fly here to perform a song for him,” she said.
Despite her age, Masuka did not disappoint as she took the audience down in the memory lane when she performed the famous Malaika song that sent Gender Minister Nkandu Luo to the dance floor.
Describing her performance, one would say her age has not affected her vocals as her singing was simply perfect.
