ABOUT 56 golfers from the Southern and Northern regions will today compete in the Lusaka Ladies Open Order of Merit Championship at the Lusaka Golf Club.
This will be the second round of the competition that the Zambia Ladies Golf Union (ZLGU) will be hosting following the first round that took place at Nkana golf Club a month ago.
ZLGU will also be using this tournament to select 12 golfers who will represent Zambia at the Triangular A and B golf tournament slated for Zimbabwe on August 1.
Zambia will send two teams that will compete in the A Division which has champions Zimbabwe and will be out to retain its B Division title in a group that will have Botswana and the hosts.
ZLGU president Beauty Mukanda, who will lead the host of lady golfers as she tees off at 07:15 hours, is confident of staging a successful two-day event.
Mukanda said she had no doubt that the tournament will also produce a strong squad that will represent Zambia well at the Triangular tournament.
She said the union has so far managed to raise half of the K120,000 budget to send golfers to Zimbabwe but expressed hope that the corporate world will jump in and help raise the money.
“We have been facing difficulties in raising this money and we can only hope that the corporate world comes to our aid,” she said.
