THE Zambia Sports Fans Association (ZSFA) has commended President Edgar Lungu for the gesture to ensure fans travelled to Guinea Bissau to cheer the Chipolopolo during the Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
ZSFA strongman Peter Makembo has since urged President Lungu to continue with his good heart of serving Zambians despite of the political affiliations. Makembo said government should not relent in its efforts of ensuring sports succeeds in the country.
“Yes we may have lost in Guinea Bissau but that should not discourage Government especially President Lungu from rendering his support to sports. We appreciate his move to enable fans travel to Guinea Bissau to cheer the Chipolopolo as well as paying for fans entry into stadia when Zambia played in Ndola,” he said.
Makembo, however, said it was regrettable that some people were burnt on tarnishing the goodwill of the government instead of appreciating what was offered.
He said he was surprised that some fans wanted to be paid allowances and even wanted to make an issue out of it when no money was allocated for pocket money.
“I was equally surprised that some fans started talking about allowances when there was no such thing. People should be grateful and appreciate such gesture by the President to ferry them to Guinea-Bissau. Let’s try to show appreciation when government is doing well and stop throwing mud because that won’t take us anywhere,” Makembo said.
