TWO local government aspiring United Party for National Development (UPND) candidates in Chingola have been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing eight bags of stock feed.
Copperbelt police chief Charity Katanga who confirmed the incident yesterday said the two allegedly stole eight bags of stock feed worth K800 the property of Moses Mwisa.
“I can confirm the theft which happened in Twisunge farms where two aspiring UPND candidates are jointly charged with theft and are alleged to have stolen eight bags of stock feed,” she said.
Ms Katanga identified the two victims as Hamalila Hamanase, 38 and Isaac Doubt, 22 all of Chingola.
She said the two are aspiring candidates for councillor positions in Chingola and they were currently detained at Chingola police station and would appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, a UPND Chililabombwe mayoral aspiring candidate Trudy Ng’andu has pledged to increase security in the district once voted for.
Speaking in an interview yesterday,Ms Ng’andu said it was cardinal for any district to have proper security for the safety of residents.
“I want to assure the residents of Chililabombwe that once they vote for me I will ensure that I increase on security especially in Kakoso ward as we know the place is highly populated hence the need to build up a police station to help people with security,” she said.
She said she was very committed to spur economic development through the expansion of infrastructure adding that she would actively involve citizens in priority setting and project development.
“I have worked with my people when I was a councillor and I know how to handle issues, one needs to involve people in decision making and I am very confident I that will scoop this seat knowing how I worked with my people, ”she said.
Ms Ng’andu added that she would also ensure that there were adequate education facilities in the district by putting up many high schools to help on the costs and distances the pupils travelled.
“The western side of Chililabombwe has few high schools so once am given another mandate I will ensure that we have adequate schools in our district to avoid inconveniencies especially on costs and distance,” she said.
