A LIVINGSTONE-based community leader, Susiku Mwanangombe, has urged aspiring candidates in this year’s general elections to be sincere with their campaign messages and ensure that they fulfill campaign promises once they are elected.
Ms Mwanangombe, who is the coordinator for the Tutalike Life Begins organisation which looks after disadvantaged children and old people in Ngwenya Township, said the electorate were looking for leaders who were truthful and committed to fulfilling their campaign messages.
She said there was need for citizens to vote for individuals who were honest and transparent in their dealings instead of merely voting for particular political parties.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, Ms Mwangambe said the people of Livingstone had learnt bitter lessons in the past on the habit of voting for political parties instead of voting for honest and quality individuals.
She said immediate past councillors at the Livingstone City Council had failed the residents lamentably as they preoccupied themselves with matters of illegal land allocation instead of focusing on enhancing service delivery.
“Most of these candidates at presidential, parliamentary, mayoral and local government elections only go to the electorate to ask for votes and later abandon the people who vote for them.
“We are tired of empty promises and for Livingstone Constituency, we have to vote for quality individuals and not simply because you belong to this or that political party,” she said.
