Power 4 Blackpool 0
MIDFIELDER Fwayo Tembo scored a brace as Power Dynamos humbled winless and bottom placed Mufulira Blackpool to creep from sixth to fourth on the MTN/FAZ Super League table.
Credit for hot-and-cold Power’s biggest win this season is Tembo, who scored a brace and created one in his first season back in Zambia since 2007 when he played for National Assembly to see him net his third goal in two matches.
Power took a 2-0 halftime lead after overcoming a promising start by Blackpool who gave the hosts an early scare when Christopher Chola’s goal-bound shot was blocked by Benson Sakala in the 11th minute.
Fwayo then put Power ahead in the 23rd minute punishing Blackpool for some bad defending who left him unmarked and he made them pay with the easiest of finishes to beat Blackpool’s goalkeeper coach turned custodian on the day Jack Ngambi.
Larry Bwalya made it 2-0 when Fwayo turned provider, again from some bad defending by Blackpool in the 30th minute.
Bwalya could have added another in the 35th minute but his long-range shot came off the woodwork with former the Nkwiza goalkeeper beaten.
Fwayo completed his brace in the 46th minute when he banged in another close-range effort from Kelvin Mubanga cross.
Mudenda then beat five Blackpool players in the 51st minute to see Power fall one goal shy of their 5-0 win over the visitors they recorded in the two side’s last top-flight meeting at the same venue in Kitwe in April 1999.
Power have 21 points, one behind third placed Zesco United and second placed Zanaco, who are tied on 22 points, and are five adrift of leaders Nkana.
For Blackpool, they suffered their second worst loss since losing 5-0 away to Zesco United on April 30 and have six points from 13 matches played.
