By JAMES KUNDA –
GOVERNMENT says it will ensure equitable allocation of the Youth Development Fund (YDF) so that young people from all parts of the country can benefit from the initiative to empower them.
Youth and Sport Minister Chishimba Kambwili said the Government was concerned that some parts of the country were allocated huge amounts of the YDF despite having less applicants for the grant.
Mr Kambwili said this when he addressed scores of young people from Luanshya who gathered at Hindu Hall for interaction with him yesterday.
“Zambia has 10 provinces and there should be no reason why youths in one region get more of the grant than others in another area,” he said.
Mr Kambwili said the Government intended to increase the YDF allocation to K40 million by 2016 so that more young people benefit from the grant.
He said over the last two years, Government had disbursed K23 million of the YDF to youths countrywide who had since grown into reputable entrepreneurs.
The minister assured the youths that Government would speed up its development agenda to benefit members of the public.
