RELEGATION threatened MTN-FAZ Super Division side Lumwana Radiants are in a desperate state to avoid the chop and are making frantic efforts to recruit former Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi as head coach.
Lumwana, currently second from bottom on nine points from their 11 games played, and just three above Mufulira Blackpool, fired coach Allan Kamwanga, who won them promotion, after a run of poor results.
Chambeshi was among the four candidates Lumwana interviewed for the vacant position.
Club secretary Paul Mashikini confirmed in an interview yesterday that Chambeshi was part of the four coaches interviewed by the club for the job of head coach but refused to name the other three.
Mashikini said the club is looking at employing a coach who has worked in the Super Division before to help the club start getting desired results.
He said the other three coaches are already attached to their respective clubs and would not be wise to name them because doing so would jeopardise their jobs.
“We are looking at a coach who has been in the Super Division before because we have been performing so badly. Yes, Beston was also interviewed together with three other coaches and by next week we shall be able to finalise things,” he said.
When contacted, Chambeshi said he would only consider taking up a job in Zambia after his contract with Botswana Defence Force (BDF) ends in May next year.
“I am currently with BDF and my contract is still running. Yes I might consider taking up the Lumwana job but not now,” he said.
