THE Zambia Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) is scouting for K600,000 to host the Southern Region Track and Field Junior Championship next month.
ZAAA communications manager Davison Mung’ambata has since appealed to the corporate world to come on board and assist the association raise the funds for the event set for June 16 to 18 at the Heroes National Stadium in Lusaka.
Mung’ambata said Zambia will be represented by 30 athletes and that the selection process has already been concluded. He said ZAAA will ensure that the athletes are in top condition for the race.
“For us as ZAAA, we have been preparing for the competition for some time now and this is an opportunity for the athletes to show that they can do better,” he said.
He said 14 countries are expected to participate and that so far seven had already confirmed participation and these include Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Malawi, Namibia and South Africa.
ZAAA competitions manager Cassius Nyendwa said preparations to stage a successful event already commenced and that it is the desire of the organising committee to stage an eventful championship.
