ZAMBIAN Voice executive director Chilufya Tayali has castigated United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema for his continued use of hate speech against President Edgar Lungu.
This comes after Mr Hichilema was quoted in the Sunday Post of May 8, this year, stating that his party would not boycott the elections and leave the country in the hands of a drunkard, citing the President.
Mr Tayali said it was unfortunate that the UPND leader had continued to insult President Lungu despite attending the peace indaba, where it was agreed that there would be no hate speech before and after the elections.
“The leadership that Mr Hichilema is portraying is embarrassing. He should address leaders with respect.
“President Lungu is still the President of Zambia and should be respected,” Mr Tayali said,
He said UPND was the biggest opposition party and that Mr Hichilema’s leadership should not portray hatred to the Zambian people.
He said Mr Hichilema would lose respect as his statements disturbed the peace being experienced in the country.
Mr Tayali said Mr Hichilema should wait until he becomes president before he could call anybody names as his speeches lacked respect for Zambians.
He said Mr Hichilema should articulate issue-based campaigns by giving speeches that would inspire Zambians.
