THE three Church mother bodies that presided over the political party’s indaba to address political violence in March this year will this monthend hold another gathering to issue a report on the performance of the political parties.
The three Church umbrella organisations, the Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC), Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) and the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) on March 27 this year, at the
Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka held an inter-party meeting to address violence in political parties.
Political parties pledged to uphold peace during and after the August 11 elections.
ZEC secretary general Cleophas Lungu said the Church was organising a meeting to be held this monthend to issue a report indicating what was happening on the ground.
Father Lungu said he could not state at this point whether the political parties had performed well or not.
“At this point I can’t say, but we are organising a meeting this monthend at which we will give a report,” he said.
Fr Lungu said it was difficult to give an accurate review before that meeting, because a number of factors were being taken into consideration.
He said the Church after the indaba in March had been holding sessions in various provinces with provincial leaders to sensitise the people there on what was agreed on in March.
The Church has so far conducted meetings at provincial level in Mansa and Chipata.
Fr Lungu said political violence needed to be addressed at various levels, including the provincial level.
He said after undertaking what was obtaining countrywide, the report would be given to the political parties at the meeting.
Since the meeting in March, the Patriotic Front and the United Party for National Development have been accusing each other of going against what was agreed at the meeting to uphold peace.
