THE Intellectual Property Unit (IPU) in Chipata District has seized Samsung counterfeit products worth about K490,000.
This followed an operation by officers from the IPU in shops in the border town.
Eastern Province police chief Grace Chipalila confirmed yesterday the exercise which was carried out on Thursday.
Provincial Minister Malozo Sichone also said the province was growing at a fast rate economically, and that information and communication technology products had flooded the local market.
He said Samsung was a household brand which was almost everywhere and that there was need for the company to be involved in reaching out to all the places to identify genuine products.
Mr Sichone said Government was eager to see genuine products on the market as counterfeit items being sneaked into the country through undesignated entry points were posing a threat to the national economy.
“Government emphasises on genuine products to be found on the market because the country might be missing out on revenue,” he said.
