Arrows ‘pierce’ Buffaloes over American Rugby trophy

RED Arrows on Sunday beat Green Buffaloes to win the 2016 American Rugby Tournament title which was last year won by Chibuluma Rugby Club.
The tournament was held at Kitwe Playing Fields (KPF).
Terry Kaushiku was an architect of Buffaloes’ downfall with two penalties and drop goal and an Edward Mumba try was all Arrows needed to lift the second trophy of the season.
Buffaloes scored a try by Chabala Chanda which was converted by Niven Kunda.
The winners pocketed K8, 000 while the runners up, Buffaloes received K5,000.
To reach the final, Arrows beat KPF 5-0 while Buffaloes edged Nchanga 36-0 in the quarter-finals
In the semi-finals, Arrows saw off Green Eagles 29-3 while Buffaloes to secured their final place after they edged Diggers 6-0.
In the third and fourth place play offs, Eagles beat men at work Diggers 7-3 to take home K1, 500.
In the Plate semi-finals, KPF beat Lusaka Rugby Club 17-5 while Nchanga were on the receiving end from Roan United as they were beaten 3-0.
And in the Plate final, host KPF beat Roan 26-0.
The home team scored tries by Derrick Chewe, Robert Lupili, Kaluba Chilundami and Chisenga Ngomalala with two conversions by Charles Banda to get a plate and a K4,000 cash.
In the Shield semi-finals, the guest Katanga were beaten 3-0 by Nchanga and in the other semi-final Prisons beat Kansanshi 15-0 and went to win the final to receive a K1, 000 reward.
In the Bowl quarter-finals Katanga were again beaten by Prisons 5-0 while Mufulira beat Kansanshi 19-7.
In the semi-final Ndola beat Prisons 7-3 while in the Bowl final, Ndola edged Mufulira 3-0 to emerge victors to get K2,000.
Three teams in defending champions Chibuluma failed to show up to defend the title with Nkwazi and konkola also absent.
