KAMWALA Magic women volleyball team yesterday were crowned 2016 Zambia Volleyball Association (ZAVA) Open champions after they beat new comers Southern Select 3-1 in an entertaining final played at the Olympic Youth development Center (OYDC).
Magic were a marvel to watch from the start of the game as they put up a splendid performance winning their first set via a 25-22 score.
In the second set, Southern Select, who were making their debut at the national championship, came in the game more energised exhibiting high level of performance that resulted in the young stars winning the set with 25-21.
The third set proved to be the toughest for both teams but it was Southern Select, who forced the game to their opponents and managed to win a number of services, the experienced Magic, howevwe dug dipper and their quality came to the fore as they stole the set 25-18 to restore their lead.
As this was not enough, Magic went ahead to claim the tightly contested fourth set via 26-24 set scores to bag a trophy, gold medals and cash prize of K2,500.
On their way to the finals Magic beat Nkwazi women 3-0, while Southern Select thrashed Green Buffaloes with an identical score 3-0.
By press time the men’s final were underway between Green Buffaloes and Nkwazi.
