INTERNATIONL Master Daniel Jere suffered a setback at the ongoing Capablanca IM Norn chess tournament losing his fifth round game to South Africa’s Denis Ovcina.
Jere, who started the championship in fine form suffered at the hands of a non rated South African Ovcina in this particular encounter in the championship in South Africa.
Despite the loss Jere still leads the ranking standards with three and half points.
In others games IM Richmond Phiri settled for a draw against his countryman IM Chitumbo Mwali to share the spoils.
Struggling Fide Master Andrew Kayonde could not find his winning ways, yet again lost his round five match to IM Providence Othlhotse.
In round six games, IM Jere will take on IM Donava Van Den Heever, while IM Mwali will face off with FM Daniel Anwuli on board one.
FM Kayonde will take on South Africa’s Dennis Ovcina with IM Phiri battling it out with FM Jong Calvin Klaasen.
The nine round championships will come to a close on Monday with the winner getting the IM Norm title that counts towards becoming a Grand master (GM).
