MoH hands over Chipata hospital construction site

THE Ministry of Health has handed over a site for construction of Chipata District Hospital to China Jiangxi Corporation.
Eastern Province medical officer Kennedy Malama said that the contractor was selected to carry out the construction works at a cost of K10, 057,992.
Dr Malama said the district hospital would have a bed capacity of 200, adding that the project was expected to take one year.
He said the current Chipata General Hospital was built in 1976 with a bed capacity of 450.
“The contract period for the project is one year, starting on February 14, 2014 and ending on February 28, 2015,” he said.
Dr Malama said that was the initial phase of the project.
He said the construction of the district hospital included the putting up of the administration block as well as the outpatient and X- ray departments.
The hospital would be situated on the Great East Road in Msekera area.
