Rangers 1 Wanderers 1
NCHANGA Rangers missed an opportunity to go into second position of the 2016 MTN-FAZ premier division as they settled for a draw against visiting Mufulira Wanderers at Nchanga Stadium in Chingola yesterday.
After a goalless first half, substitute Nicholas Kamocha put the visitors ahead in the 70th minute with a lucky goal that hit him on the back and deflected away from the out-of-position Nchanga Rangers goal minder.
With the home team seemingly headed for defeat, they responded by attacking Wanderers and got rewarded through Chongo Chirwa who levelled in the 76th minute with a fine strike from outside the box after being put through by Samson Chilupe, leaving Joshua Manyongo, the Wanderers goalie with no chance.
Manyongo was to later save the struggling Mufulira side with a double save. First up was Emmanuel Banda’s free-kick then a Fred Phiri follow-up.
Nchanga moved up to fifth on the table with 10 points and had they won, they would have been joint second with Nakambala Leopards on 10 points while Wanderers yesterday recorded a fifth draw in seven games.
At five, Wanderers actually have the most draws this season.
