By KASONDE KASONDE –
Higher Education Minister, Micheal Kaingu has advised United Party for National Development (UPND) president, Hakainde Hichilema not to politicise what was happening at the two highest learning institutions because there were administrative bodies in charge.
This follows Mr  Hichilema’s 30 day ultimutum given to Government in which to lift the suspension of students who were protest ringleaders at the University of Zambia (UNZA) and the Copperbelt University (CBU), leading to the closure of the institutions.
Dr Kaingu said Government had nothing to do with decisions made at the two institutions and called on Mr Hichilema to base his political campaigns on something else.
“I would like to advise Mr Hichilema to stop issuing statements on UNZA and CBU and making threats to the Government because it does not interfere with the institutions, they have managements that make decisions on how they are run”, Dr Kaingu said.
Mr Hichilema said if Government failed to lift the suspensions, he would reinstate the students after August elections.
“I am giving the Patriotic Front (PF) Government a 30-day ultimatum in which to lift the suspension of UNZA and CBU students failure to which I will call on the students to boycott class for three months until August when I become president and reinstate the suspended students”, Mr Hichilema said.
Mr Hichilema said the students had done nothing wrong in demanding their meal allowances and that Government should not suspend any student.
