Sport On - Chipepo newZESCO United have indeed proved to be worthy champions by qualifying to the lucrative group stage of the CAF 2016 Champions League.
Job well done to the Zambian league champions for making the country proud.
This means more money to the champions and of course more international entertainment for the local fans.
The Ndola side has indeed proved their prowess and congratulations to George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina and the entire team for managing to solve the jigsaw puzzle that has been a thorn for many years.
Well, the group stage is a much tougher challenge, but I am confident Zesco will be equal to the task.
I believe the Ndola side has enough ammunition to ably compete at that stage, Zesco has set the bar quite high.
The same cannot be said about our dear Confederation Cup envoys, Zanaco, whose journey ended distressingly in Tunisia.
Well, maybe they also need a small pat for reaching the third round, but that’s not good enough for an experienced side like Zanaco.
The ‘bankers’ have been at that stage before and know exactly what is expected at that level, and some reasons that were advanced were laughable to say the least.
I shall not dwell much on Zanaco, but will instead allow them to reflect on their embarrassing 0-3 loss to their last opponents, Stade Gabesien, who eliminated them via a 4-1 aggregate.
Zanaco were held at home before being battered 3-0 away …whatever happened in Tunisia is obviously called football.
On a much brighter and happier end, Futsal seems to be on the rise and our team is representing us well at the on-going 2016 Africa Futsal Cup of Nations final in South Africa where they reached the last four.
Zambia are in the semi-finals and a game away from qualifying to the World Cup, a feat which is achievable with hard work. Wish the lads all the best as they play favourites Egypt.
