THE Zambia futsal team today takes on giants Egypt for a place in the final of the ongoing 2016 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations at Ellis Park Arena in South Africa.
A win will not just give Zambia a place in the final, but also guarantee the country a place at this year’s Futsal World Cup to be played in Colombia.
Zambia qualified to the historic semi-finals of this tournament when they finished second in Group A with four points after beating Tunisia 4-2 in the first game, losing 3-0 to hosts South Africa and then drawing 4-4 to Mozambique.
The team should today put up their best performance if they are to stand a chance of beating Egypt, who have won three of the four Africa futsal titles.
Egypt booked their semi-final spot with seven points and finished as group winners.
They won the Futsal Africa Cup in 1996, 2000 and 2004 before Libya nicked it from them in 2008. The tournament was not held in 2012.
Zambia will look to Adrian Chama, who has helped the team immensely so far with his hat-trick in the first game and a brace in the third.
Meanwhile, Zambia national team assistant coach Brian Kunsanama said in an interview from South Africa yesterday that his team will put up the best it could to win the semi-finals and qualify to the final round.
Kunsanama said the team was now focused on coming out among the top three of the tournament in order to make the Columbia World Cup in September, but added that Egypt would not be overrated.
He said the team was also happy with the help the Football Association of Zambia has been putting in since the players travelled to South Africa.
Zambia will play Egypt at 21:00 hours, while Mozambique and Morocco play the other semi-finals starting at 18:00 hours.
