A FORTY-SEVEN-YEAR-old security guard at Buchi Company in Ndola has been murdered and partially buried by suspected criminals who attempted to steal from the warehouse.
Copperbelt deputy police commissioner, Byemba Musole confirmed that Steven Mwanza of an unknown address in Mushili township was murdered by unknown people.
A Times of Zambia crew found the body of the deceased half buried in the sand by the criminals.
Mr Musole said the Mr Mwanza’s body was discovered at Tiger Feeds shop next to a hammer suspected to have been used in the act.
He said the deceased sustained head injuries and that he was found with his hands tied.
“A murder case occurred between 08:00 hours on Wednesday and 06:00 hour yesterday when the body was discovered.
“Unknown people are suspected to have murdered the security guard using a hammer,” he said.
Mr Musole said Mr Mwanza’s body was at Ndola Central Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem.
He said no arrests had been made but Police had instituted investigations into the matter.
Mr Musole said nothing was stolen from the premises as everything was found intact.
In another incident, police have picked a body of an unidentified man suspected to be in his early 40s near Masala Stream.
Mr Byemba said police were still investigating the matter, but suspected that the man drowned and was retrieved by members of the public.
Meanwhile, a five-year-old toddler has been dumped by its mother in Kitwe.
Mr Musole confirmed the dumping of the child that was abandoned on a road near the Catholic Church in town on Wednesday night.
He said the toddler was found around 20:00 hours by police officers on night patrol.
He said they found the child wrapped in a towel and that it had a note tied around it bearing its name and the reason the mother decided to act in that manner.
“The note read that the mother dumped the child because she could not manage to take care of it,” Mr Musole said.
