CHIPOLOPOLO forward Jacob Mulenga has been handed a one-year contract extension by his Chinese club Shijiazhuang Yongchang.
Mulenga is in his final phase of an initial two-year contract following his move to China from Europe in 2015.
The Zambia striker said in an interview from China that he was humbled to be handed an extra year to his contract in a league that is fast attracting high-profile players from Europe.
“The club has given me an extension to my contract which adds another year. The chairman, the coach and everyone is very happy with my work and how I conduct myself with the team,” Mulenga said.
Mulenga’s first season saw him score 13 goals to help Shijiazhuang finish 7th following their promotion last year.
“After last year’s performance, they rewarded me with an additional year. I thank God for this. It’s not easy to get into a booming market, staying and performing is even harder,” Mulenga said.
Mulenga has yet to open his account for the 2016 season with just two assists for Shijiazhuang, who are currently 12th in the 16-team league with 4 points from as many games played.
And Sandra Mwila writes that striker Moses Phiri at the weekend opened his scoring account for his new Portuguese club Academico de Viseu, while Evans Kangwa was also on target for his Israel side for Hapoel Ra’anana to take his goal tally to 11 this season.
In Portugal, despite Phiri scoring, his team lost 2-1 to GD Chaves in a second division game leaving his club stuck at second position in the league.
Phiri said in an interview from Portugal that the league was competitive and will work hard to be a regular in the starting team and that his target was to help the side earn promotion to the top division.
“The league is very competitive here, I will work hard to ensure I score more goals and help the team earn promotion to the division,” Moses said.
Phiri joined Academico earlier this year from Zanaco on a six-month loan after finishing second on the top scorers’ chart in the MTN-FAZ league with 11 goals and only beaten by Winston Kalengo.
In Israel, Kangwa scored the first goal in his side’s 3-2 loss to Bnei Sakhnini.
