RENOWNED Judoka Boas Munyonga won three matches at the ongoing African Judo Senior Championships in Tunis to keep his dream of qualifying to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games alive.
Munyonga, fighting in the 81 kilogramme category, was drawn in pool C where he faced some of the continent’s best judokas but the Zambian did not disappoint.
He beat Camoes Mario of Cape Verde through a knockout to progress to the second round where he overcame Whittaker Dale of South Africa with a knockout tangle before meeting his toughest opponent of the day in Ben Ammar of Tunisia to record his first loss.
Munyonga, a Commonwealth bronze medallist, dropped into the repecharge to fight for bronze and won his fight against Maiga Mohamed Al Bachir of Ivory Coast vie a knockout.
However, Munyonga suffered a blow in the final after losing to Drid Hamza of Algeria to exit the championship.
Despite the elimination, Munyonga gained enough points which saw him ranked fifth in the 81 kilogramme category on the continent.
