THE MTN/FAZ Super League Week Five games today promise thrills with the top of the drawer clash involving Power Dynamos and Red Arrows at Arthur Davis Stadium while it will be another clash of legends when Kabwe Warriors host “Mighty” Mufulira Wanderers at the Godfrey Chitalu Stadium.
Ndola fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the first Ndola derby of the season as Zesco United’s game against Forest Rangers has been postponed due to the champion’s involvement in the CAF Champions’ League in Mali, same as Zanaco’s tie against Lusaka Dynamos because the “bankers” are hosting Stade Gabesien of Tunisia in the CAF Confederation Cup.
League leaders Nkana will face Lusaka Tigers tomorrow at Independence Stadium which will host a double header with Napsa Stars facing Nkwazi at the same venue to be shown live on Supersport.
Power Dynamos v Red Arrows
Power coach Tenant Chilumba never imagined he could be playing for his job as early as the fifth week but that is the reality he has to accept to ensure he remains at the helm of the team come last day of the season.
Despite assurances by Power chairman Gilbert Simakoloyi that Chilumba’s job was safe, the writing is clear on the wall and the coach needs to start picking wins from today to avoid being the first casualty among coaches.
He faces a Red Arrows side that is also yet to find its feet in the new campaign having played only twice after delaying return from their preseason military training.
It will come as good news for Power as they will take advantage of their “sloppy” opponents to engineer a win that will reduce the pressure.
Warriors v Wanderers
This is a fixture that brings together two sides that boast of a rich history of Zambian football. The teams have sets of passionate fans who will be as active off the pitch as the action on it.
Warriors have had a disappointing start to the season after bouncing back from division one where they are yet to register a win in three matches and have drawn twice.
Wanderers have also found it tough to get wins in their first four matches where they have won once and drawn the other three.
Warriors’ fans have every confidence in coach Mohammed Fathy who has turned things around before and they know a first win of the season will trigger more success going forward.
Nchanga v Buffaloes
Rangers managed to return to winning ways after two consecutive defeats by beating Lusaka Dynamos away and today with a home tie against Green Buffaloes they will fancy their chances to move to within three points from the leaders.
Buffaloes gave away a 1-0 lead to draw 1-1 with Lusaka Tigers and coach Bilton Musonda knows time to underrate opponents is gone and need to face each team with more seriousness.
The Barclays Cup champions are a point behind their hosts today on five points and if they need to be considered as serious title contenders they need to start showing it.
The remainder of the fixtures will see bottom placed Green Eagles search for their first win when they host Lumwana Radiants who have suffered the biggest defeat so far, a 4-0 bashing against Nkwazi and Mufulira Blackpool will look to pick first maximum points at home against Nakambala Leopards.
