Lusaka Mayor George Nyendwa said this in Lusaka when he handed over the football kit from Tyrew King to the Lusaka City Council Football team at Nationalist Stadium.
Nyendwa said the K3 million would cater for sports disciplines like football, netball, boxing, basketball and the Mayoral tournament.
“The LCC management has allocated to total K3 million (about, K278, 898) towards the sponsorship of all sports disciplines under the council’s umbrella,” he said.
On Division one outfit, LCC, he said management had introduced monthly allowances for players and technical bench as a way of motivating the players and enhancing performance of the team besides recruiting eight players.
“We are still a powerhouse to reckon with in football circles and we have a strategy to bring LCC back to its glory days, for this reason, we are positioning ourselves for good and better results,” he said.
The team will take on Happy Hearts Academy in their opening match of the MTN-FAZ Division one league match.
Meanwhile Tyre-King Enterprise donated a set of football jerseys to LCC worth K7, 000 and the LCC management has also bought assorted football kit worth K38, 000.
Nyendwa also pledged the council’s unending support to the team and urged them to bring good results.
“As patron of the LCC, I would like to pledge the council’s total commitment to the sponsorship of sports disciplines under the our umbrella, particularly football where I have a passion,” he added.
