THE Zambia ladies golf team has dropped a notch to fifth at the ongoing All-Africa Challenge golf trophy in Tunisia after two rounds of the competition where they now have 234 points.
The Zambian contingent who started the championship on a fair note with a fourth position after round one, failed to replicate that and now have to fight hard to make the top three podium positions.
The championship that has attracted 16 countries will come to a close on Tuesday next week (April 12).
Championship favourites South Africa has continued leading the table and yesterday extend their lead from the nine they had on Day-One to a 14-point gap over Morocco in the second round.
South Africa are now 297 points and followed by Morocco who are on 311 points with hosts Tunisia maintaining third slot on 321 points though this time they are alone unlike Day-One when they had same points as Zambia.
Zimbabwe have gone a step up displacing Zambia in fourth with 324 points with Zambia taking fifth place and joined by Kenya on 334 points though Zambia leads on a count back.
Uganda where in distant seventh position on 341 points while Senegal, Nigeria and Ivory Coast came out eight, nine and tenth with 342, 345 and 349 points respectively.
And Zambia Ladies Golf Union (ZLGU) president Beauty Mukanda bemoaned the bad weather conditions, saying it contributed to the team not doing well in the competition.
She said due to the bad weather, the games where put on hold for two-and-half hours and when the golfers were going back to play, the Zambian ladies had lost momentum.
“The weather was bad, it rained heavily, the organisers had to stop the game for two-and-half hours and when girls went back to play, they momentum had gone,” she said.
