SHEPOLOPOLO coach Albert Kachinga says Zambia just has to convincingly win Sunday’s return leg of the Africa Women’s Championship (AWC) qualifier against Zimbabwe.
Zambia were beaten 1-0 by Zimbabwe in Harare in the first leg of the final qualifying round of the AWC whose final will be in Cameroon.
Kachinga said the loss was water under the bridge and that focus must now be on the return match on Sunday so that Zambia makes the second AWC finals in the last two attempts.
“We lost to Zimbabwe yes and it’s time to shift attention to the game on Sunday, we must score at least two goals and not allow them to score if we are to qualify. We still have chance to make it to the AWC in Cameroon,” he said.
He said Zambia will have the crowd behind them at Nkoloma and this should work to his girls’ advantage in their quest to eliminate Zimbabwe.
“It’s not over. We still have another 90 minutes to play, we definitely have to put everything into it. What matters now is to qualify, we can’t let Zimbabwe go to the Africa Cup and then Olympics, we shall not allow them to do that,” said Kachinga.
Zimbabwe also eliminated Zambia from the running to qualify to the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
Meanwhile Mighty Warriors Coach Shadreck Mlauzi told the Herald paper that he was comfortable with the 1-0 win over the Shepolopolo.
Mlauzi said Sunday’s return game would be crucial especially that the Shepolopolo would be playing in front of its fans at home.
“So going forward, I think on our side part, it’s a plus to win without conceding at home. When we go away, we are not going to sit back, we are still going to search for a goal and hopefully consolidate what we have done here,” said Mlauzi.
