KAGEN Mine has weighed in with a whooping US$30,000 towards preparations for the summer 2016 Olympic Games to be staged in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Sports Deputy Minister Ronald Chitotela revealed this yesterday adding that the Lufwanyama-based mining company had pledged $30,000 to go towards all the Zambian athletics who will qualify for the Rio Olympics in Brazil.
He hailed Kagem for the donation and urged other companies to follow suit.
He said that Kagem Mining was now the main sponsor of all the Zambian athletes who would qualify for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics games.
Chitotela said the organisation had also pledged to get the Zambian contingent’s uniform and other attire for the games.
“Apart from the $30,000 Kagem will also acquire the team’s uniforms and even sponsor members of the National Olympics Committee (NOC) who will be part of the delegation,” he said.
Chitotela said the sponsorship would cater for all the logistics and other expenses the athletes would incur while in Brazil.
“Kagem should be commended for helping Government with such an initiative because we alone cannot bear this cost,” he said.
He called on other stakeholders to come on board and help Government in trying to improve sports in the country.
Chitotela said Government would embrace other stakeholders that would come on board to help in making the trip to Brazil memorable.
