POLICE in Choma District have arrested an accountant and a fuel attendant of Arupee Service Station for alleged theft by servant and forgery of accounting receipts amounting to K22,000.
Outgoing provincial police chief Charity Katanga confirmed the arrest and named the accountant as Joseph Mooye, 44, of Showgrounds residential area.
The other suspect was identified as Kelvin Kayawe, 42, a fuel attendant of Zambia Township in Choma.
Ms Katanga said the two were arrested last weekend for alleged theft by servant and forgery of accounting receipts amounting to K22,000.
The suspects were detained at Choma Police Station waiting to appear in court.
Ms Katanga said in the first count, Mooye and Kayawe were charged with theft by servant contrary to section 342 of the Penal Code Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
In the second count, she said the two were charged with forgery and uttering false documents contrary to section 278 of the Penal Code Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Ms Katanga said Mooye and Kayawe allegedly stole the funds belonging to Prakash Naik, the proprietor of Arupee Service Station.
Ms Katanga said the company had engaged auditors to check the accounts records as more funds were suspected to have been stolen from the filling station since 2012.
She said three more workers were expected to be interrogated by police in connection with alleged theft of funds.
