By JAMES KUNDA –
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has urged his fellow political party leaders to ensure that the resolutions of the meeting with the Church are implemented for the purpose of national peace and unity.
The Head of State, who expressed satisfaction with the meeting held between 18 political party leaders and the three Church mother bodies in Lusaka on Tuesday, said each leader had a role to play in the successful implementation of the resolutions.
“The meeting was very fruitful and what remains now is for each one of us to implement the resolutions.
“I have agreed with everything that was resolved, but it’s for all of us to walk the talk,” the President said.
He was speaking to journalists at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross shortly after the indaba, which was convened by the Zambia Episcopal Conference, Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia, and Council of Churches in Zambia.
The meeting was called to address the differences between political parties which had resulted in clashes among opponents.
Mr Lungu, who was accompanied to the meeting by his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda and Patriotic Front deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri, said the nation should continue praying for peace as the elections drew near.
“It was not Lungu’s show, it was for all of us. We’ll keep on praying and we’ll manage,” Mr Lungu said.
As he bade farewell to the clerics led by Lusaka Catholic Diocese Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu, the Head of State thanked the Church leaders for convening a ‘well-managed’ indaba.
“Thank you very much, we are very grateful and we’ll keep on praying,” he said.
The meeting, which lasted for about seven hours, unanimously resolved to implement modalities aimed at curbing all forms of political unrest before, during and after the August 11 polls.
