THE construction of phase II of Masaiti District Hospital at a cost of more than K22 million has been completed. Masaiti Member of Parliament (MP) Michael Katambo disclosed that the project which commenced in 2010 has now been fully completed. Mr Katambo said in an interview that what remained now was to furnish the male ward, fence and electrify the facility. He said people in the district and surrounding areas would soon have a district hospital that would enable them access quality healthcare services closer to their homes. Mr Katambo said for a long time the district had not had a hospital and that it would be the first health facility in the area. “Construction of the district hospital has been completed, what is now remaining before it is commissioned is the furnishing of the male ward, fencing and electrification of the facility, this is an indication that people in the area will be accessing quality health care services close to their homes,” he said. Mr Katambo said the works done in phase II included construction of wards, maternity wing and the administration block. Mr Katambo said the hospital was among many other projects that the Patriotic Front (PF) Government had embarked on in his constituency. He said as Government was constructing 650 health posts countrywide, Masaiti had not been left out because it had also benefitted with nine health posts being constructed in the area.
