ANOTHER batch of 100 solar powered milling units is expected to arrive in the country early next month, bringing the total number of units to 200.
Zambia Cooperative Federation (ZCF) director general, James Chirwa said the 100 units were expected to arrive through Beira and Dar es Salaam in Mozambique and Tanzania respectively.
Mr Chirwa said ZCF undertook a trip to China to engage the manufacturers to expedite the process of shipping the equipment and export clearance.
“We are expecting another set of 100 solar powered units in the country. The units are expected to arrive in the country through the two ports, Beira and Dar es Salaam. Of course this brings the total number of milling units in the country to 200,” he said.
Mr Chirwa also said over 50 out of the 100 milling units which arrived in the country earlier this year have been installed.
The milling units, being installed in all the provinces in the country, are aimed at cutting down the cost of mealie-meal which has reached unprecedented levels in recent months.
