By MAIMBOLWA MULIKELELA –
HUNGRY Lion Zambia, a subsidiary of the Shoprite Holdings Group, has invested US$1 million to establish an outlet at Cosmopolitan Shopping Mall in Lusaka.
This will bring the number of Hungry Lion takeaways in the country to 20.
The Cosmopolitan Shopping Mall is scheduled for official opening today and will house brands such as Game Stores, Woolworths, Edgars, Shoprite, Foschini, and Mr Price.
Shoprite Holdings Group general manager Charles Bota said normally, the chain store would spend between $750,000 and $1million on setting up a Hungry Lion outlet.
“This will be our 20th Hungry Lion outlet and it is a milestone. This one will take in $1 million because it is an upmarket and we are planning to open other takeaways later this year,” he said in an interview in Lusaka.
He said plans were underway to open other Hungry Lion outlets in Lusaka and was targeting to establish about five more by the close of this year.
“We intend to reach about 25 to 26 outlets and if the economy holds, we will hit 30 as long as the business is supported by our customers out there,” Mr Bota said.
