FORMER Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Kalusha Bwalya has wished the newly elected Andrew Kamanga-led executive committee all the best.
Kalusha, who did not wait to hear the final results of the polls and did not even congratulate the new president, instead took to his Facebook account to share his thoughts where he wrote that he wants Zambian football to win.
“Football is about winning and losing. I want Zambian Football to win.
All the best to FAZ and the new leadership,” he said.
Losing FAZ presidential candidate Henschel Chitembeya has thrown his weight behind Kamanga, saying the two share similar visions.
Chitembeya said in an interview that the main objective was to end Kalusha’s administration to save the sport.
He said he had put his loss behind because he did not feel half as bad as the people who were in the executive but lost their positions.
“The biggest winner in these elections is football because now we have a credible leader who we should all support. I know not all of them pass the credibility test, but the good thing is the one at the top is credible and he has to put his foot down on some of them because old habits die hard.
“There is no much difference between my vision and Kamanga’s vision. I think I can support him, the only difference is that I wanted to jumpstart football looking at how it has gone down.” Chitembeya said.
Chitembeya said the biggest assignment for the new executive was to qualify to the 2018 World Cup apart from cleaning the alleged corruption at Football House.
He said the new executive has inherited a lot of mess which needed to be sorted out immediately. Chitembeya further added that he was not surprised with the resignation of some FAZ staff because most of them were imposed on positions.
He said he expected more of the staff to leave on their own because they knew there was no room for them in the new and transparent administration.
Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Molefi Oliphant, who attended the elective AGM, paid tribute to the elections committee for the transparent manner in which polls were conducted and declared them free and fair.
Oliphant congratulated Kamanga and his new executive and looked forward to working with them at CAF. He said it was not easy to work in football but it is done for the love of the game.
