By JULIUS PHIRI – SENIOR Chief Mwase of the Chewa people of Lundazi District in Eastern Province has said it is disappointing that some opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) and councillors have failed to develop their areas. The traditional leader said when Lundazi business executive Evans Ngoma paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Lundazi on Sunday that some elected representatives in Parliament and councils were failing to spearhead the much needed development for the people. Chief Mwase said some opposition leaders were merely causing confusion at the expense of fostering development. “It is sad and disappointing that some opposition MPs and councillors failed to deliver the much needed development. I have not seen tangible developments in my chiefdom,” he said. He said this year’s election should be used as a platform to vote for leaders who could take meaningful development to the people. He said that as a traditional leader, he was looking forward to the adoption and election of people who were always in touch with the masses. Meanwhile, Mr Ngoma said he decided to plough back to the community through the donation of foodstuffs like mealie-meal which was essential. He told the people of Mankhaka and Loti villages in Chief Mwase’s area that the donation of 115 by 25 kg bags of mealie-meal was part of supplementing Government efforts. “When you talk of the Government,it is us the people and let’s help it by donating whatever we have to people who are in need of something,” he said. Mr Ngoma who is Lundazi Central Patriotic Front (PF) aspiring candidate also challenged the people to vote for President Edgar Lungu in the August, 11 general elections. He urged the people to vote for right people both as MPs and councillors for President Lungu to continue fostering development. And headman Mankhaka and headman Loti hailed Mr Ngoma for giving the starving villagers mealie-meal. Headman Mankhaka said people were faced with many challenges which needed the intervention of the Government.
