By JAMES KUNDA –
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has directed all public service workers who have applied to contest for political office in this year’s general elections to immediately disengage from the civil service.
He said he desired to see an impartial and professional civil service devoid of the undue political pressures.
Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda said in a statement yesterday that the directive covered all public service workers employed directly in the civil service and those in parastatals.
Mr Chanda said the President’s instruction was intended at protecting the integrity and impartiality of the civil service as the unit implements Government programmes before, during and after the elections.
“The President is desirous to see an impartial and professional civil service devoid of the undue political pressures.
“He has emphasised that the current political season ahead of the polls must not be used by anyone to bring confusion in the civil service,” Mr Chanda said.
