FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya has been ushered into the Africa 10 football Hall of Fame for his contribution to the development of football on the continent.
And Republican President Edgar Lungu has congratulated Kalusha on the honour which was conferred to him at a plush ceremony held in London on Saturday night.
Africa10 is an organisation chaired by former United Nations (UN) Chairperson Koffi Annan which is dedicated to providing grants for the next generation of African leaders.
Kalusha and nine other African football greats including former world player of the year, George Weah, will be the football ambassadors of the organisation.
Annan presented the honour to the 1988 African footballer of the year and the rest of the members making Africa’s 10 greatest players.
Other members of Africa10 who received the honours are Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, Nwanko Kanu, Austin ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha, Abedi ‘Pele’ Ayew, Rodger Milla, Yaya Touré, Rabat Major and George Weah.
And President Lungu was first to congratulate Kalusha on the honour, which he posted on his facebook page as he was leaving for Nabwalya in Mfuwe Constituency under Mpika District.
“Today we woke up to the good news that one of our national sports heroes, Kalusha Bwalya is among 10 Africans honoured and inducted into the Football Hall of Fame.
“It’s congratulations to ‘Great Kalu’,” President Lungu said.
And FAZ communications manager Nkweto Tembwe described the award as a continental thumbs up to a football son of Africa.
‘‘FAZ President Kalusha last evening received yet another accolade of recognition of his footballing career.
Africa 10 has given Kalusha this continental thumbs-up. Kalusha has been honoured for his illustrious football career spanning over thirty years. Kalusha will now be one of the 10 to carry the vision of Africa10,” Tembwe said.
Kalusha, who is also a CAF Executive Committee member, has been honoured for his illustrious football career spanning over thirty years.
