ORIENTAL Quarries boxer, Emmanuel Ngoma yesterday moved into the medal bracket at the ongoing 2016 African Boxing Olympic qualification tournament in Cameroon after defeating Kenyan Benson Njangiru, who is ranked first on the continent.
In what has been described as a thriller of a bout, Ngoma took a split points decision to get to the semi-finals where he will now be hoping to change colour of the medal and subsequently qualify to the olympics.
Just the top three in each weight category make the Olympics Games in the men’s category while just the gold medalist in the women’s ranks will go to Rio for the Olympics.
Middleweight boxer Ben Muziyo kept Zambia’s 100 per cent winning record after he easily dispatched his Gabonese opponent Londgi Arignany in a middleweight contest on Saturday night and will in the next fight face Nickson Otieno Abaka of Kenya.
By press time, welterweight Mbachi Kaonga was taking on Cedric Massala of Congo Brazzaville with Caristo Bwalya getting into the ring today against Mokamou Mayeleti while Juliana Kasonka, the only Zambian female at the games, takes on Ezzahraoui Zohra of Morocco tomorrow.
