SEVENTEEN-year-old Levious Mwanza, who has been walking from Kabanana Township to Lusaka Secondary School in Longacres every day, will with effect from this week stop walking following the donation of a bicycle by the Times Printpak Christian Fellowship.
Friday’s donation was the second the Fellowship was making to the Mwanza family, with the previous one being last month comprising money and assorted groceries.
Both donations were necessitated by monetary contributions from members of staff who have been attending the Times lunch hour fellowships on Wednesday and Friday.
Levious’ mother, Margaret Mwanza received the bicycle on behalf of her son from Times sales and marketing manager, Mark Nyasulu witnessed by human resource manager, Jean Mwanza and advertising manager, Constance Mbewe, among other staff members.
Times Christian Fellowship patron and company managing director, Bestone Ng’onga, also met Ms Mwanza.
Ms Mwanza is the widow of a former Zambia State Insurance Corporation employee, Levious Mwanza, who was among the more than 1,000 workers retrenched in 1991 and were yet to receive their benefits.
The Times Christian Fellowship was prompted to assist the Mwanza family after learning about the hardships they had been experiencing over the years.
The family has been going for days without food, and Levious has been walking from Kabanana to Longacres because of lack of money for transport.
He has been leaving home at 04:00 hours and walk to and from Lusaka Secondary School.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mr Nyasulu said the Times Christian Fellowship decided to donate to the Mwanza family for the second time as it felt it had not completed its mission.
Receiving the donation, Ms Mwanza said she was thankful to the Times for the gesture and was hopeful that God would reciprocate by blessing its members and their families.
