By JULIUS PHIRI –
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has assured marketeers at Nabvutika Market in Chipata that Government will pave the market so that they could sell their goods in a good environment.
Mr Lungu, who was mobbed by traders at the market in Chipata yesterday, said he would not want the marketeers to die from cholera.
He said there was a cholera outbreak in Lusaka which should be contained.
“We will pave Nabvutika Market because I don’t want people to die from cholera.
“Cholera breaks out due to dirt, so I want this place to be clean,” the President told hundreds of marketeers.
He also assured the marketeers that they would be empowered with soft loans while cyclists would be given bicycles.
President Lungu told the residents that it was unfair for Cargill to sell its mealie-meal at higher prices despite Government’s efforts, through the Food Reserve Agency, to offload cheaper maize to the millers.
Mr Lungu urged the marketeers to refrain from any acts of violence.
He said he would continue listening to the Zambian people because they were his “bosses” in the implementation of various developmental programmes.
