By REBECCA MUSHOTA – THE Patriotic Front (PF) has accused some diplomats of conniving with some opposition political party leaders to champion the removal of the Christian nation declaration in the Constitution and introduce gay rights. PF member of the media and publicity committee Brian Hapunda said he is aware that some diplomats are working with an opposition political party to ensure that it is ushered into office in August and consequently remove the Christian nation declaration. Mr Hapunda said this was in order to champion gay rights. He said it was unfortunate and that the PF Government would never remove the Christian nation clause. “For as long as we remain in Government, Zambia shall remain a Christian nation. We will uphold the Christian values,” Mr Hapunda said. He said it was wrong for some members of the diplomatic corps to engage themselves actively in politics. He said Zambia was a sovereign State that had the right to oversee its affairs, and diplomats should draw boundaries to ensure continued good relations with countries they represent. Mr Hapunda said some diplomats were engaging some opposition political leaders to get them to endorse a particular opposition party leader who has agreed to introduce gay rights in Zambia. He said Zambians should reject such moves because the nation has decided to uphold Christian values.
